About The City :

Tiruchirappalli or Tiruchi or Trichy is the 4th largest city in Tamil Nadu. The Kaveri river borders the north of the city. Trichy was once part of the Chola empire and houses several temples. The Shevaroy hills in the north and the Palani hills in the south and south-west frame the city which lies on the plains between them. The region around the city is a fertile one and hence is largely agricultural.

City Attractions :
  • Rockfort Ganapathi Temple : Located on a huge rock, this temple is one of the oldest temples in the country. The rock on which the temple stands is as old as the Himalayan Mountains. Following 344 steps, the main temple area starts. The temple has shrines for many Gods and Goddess of Hindu mythology. The temple was built in 7th century.

  • Vekkaliamman Temple : Dedicated to the Goddess Parvati, this temple was built many centuries ago. Every year, this temple engages six festivals, which includes many cultural activities, shopping stall and others. The temple is specifically left without a roof. It is an important pilgrim spot and thus, it will be very crowded during auspicious days and religious festivals.
  • Mukkombu : Mukkombu is a small picnic spot which holds garden, fishing area and others. Boating facilities are also available here. Boating and fishing facilities are available only during tourism season. The region is famous among tourists for strolling, relaxing and enjoying the evening. If you visit during off-season, the region will be secluded for you to enjoy with your special ones.
  • Ranganathaswamy Temple : This 9th century temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is famous for its ancient Dravidian architecture. You can find many statues and carving in this 156 acre covering temple. The 72 tier temple tower is an interesting attraction of this temple.
  • Puliancholai Falls : This terrace waterfall is a picnic spot. The serene surrounding and pristine water body make the place more beautiful. The place will not be very crowded and thus, you can enjoy a relaxed time in this region.
  • Jambukeshwara Temple : This ancient 2nd century temple is a major pilgrimage site and tourist attraction. You can find many tourists visiting this temple to enjoy the carvings and paintings that explain many mythological stories. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and you can find many Dravidian styled architectural elements in the temple.
